The conventional approach is to make up a tape with the program repeated numerous times until the tape is full. This results in periodical long periods of blank screen while the tape rewinds. As well, tape formats tend to jam and develop "drop-outs", noise and other faults when run repeatedly.
A single copy of a DVD authored with a "Repeat" function can run continuously for many days, with no pauses, and still look as pristine at the end of the show as it did at the beginning.
Education and Training
One of the most exciting applications for DVD is in the fields of education and training. The interactive features allow the users to navigate a training program at their own pace, with audio, video, text, graphics and web links all integrated into the one disc.
Multiple video angles allow processes to be demonstrated from several different points of view, all selectable in real time by the user. Once again, multiple audio tracks allow the users to select a commentary in their language, or different versions of the sound-track can be accessed by students with different needs.
Music
DVD is an ideal format for showcasing music. For demos, in-store music video compilations, bars and hospitality venues, anywhere that superb digital sound - up to 5.1 surround - is required.
